Language is the foundation of our daily lives and determines the identity of a community or country. Non-verbal communication between people, such as facial expressions, voice, pitch and micro-expressions, hand-gestures and body movements can influence social interactions; it can unite or alienate people and communities.
When we speak, we shape our thoughts for language, and when we gesture, we shape them in the space in front of us. For the work Cloud of thought Vaassen analyzed the hand-gestures that were made unconsciously during a conversation between two people and shaped these movements with copper thread that then became tangible in the air.
